These terms govern your use of the HelpU app. Please read them — in particular the section on who is actually doing the work, because it is the part people most often get wrong about a marketplace.
These documents are currently available in English only. Greek and the other languages HelpU supports will follow once the translations have been reviewed; until then the English text is the one that applies.
Who you are contracting with
HelpU is an early-stage project based in Larnaca, Cyprus, not yet an incorporated company. It is run by an individual, reachable at saleemmatar6@gmail.com. By using the app you agree to these terms with them.
HelpU is a marketplace, not the service provider
HelpU introduces customers to independent home-services providers in and around Larnaca and handles the booking, the pricing and the payment. The work itself — the cleaning, the plumbing, the repair — is performed by the provider, not by HelpU.
•
Providers are independent businesses or self-employed people. They are not employees, agents or partners of HelpU.
•
The contract for the work is between you and the provider. HelpU is not a party to it.
•
HelpU does not supervise the work, is not present at the job, and cannot guarantee its outcome.
•
Badges shown on a provider’s listing reflect what that provider has told us and what we have been able to check. They are a signal, not a warranty.
Your account
•
You must be 18 or older.
•
The details you give must be accurate, and you must keep them up to date — an address or a phone number that is wrong is how a job goes wrong.
•
Your account is yours. Do not let someone else use it, and tell us if you think someone has.
•
You can close your account at any time from inside the app.
Booking and pricing
•
The app shows you a full price breakdown before you confirm. That is the price, in euro, including any service fee and any promotion applied to it.
•
Starting checkout holds the slot while payment is arranged. It does not charge you and does not create a commitment on the provider’s side.
•
A booking becomes real when payment is authorised and the provider accepts it. A provider may decline, in which case nothing is charged.
•
If a promotion is applied before you sign in, it is provisional — some offers depend on who you are, and the final price is confirmed once you are signed in. The app tells you when a line is provisional.
•
If the price the app has and the price the server has disagree at the moment of payment, the payment stops and you are re-quoted. We would rather interrupt you than charge you a number you did not see.
Payment
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe directly and are never handled by HelpU. By paying you also accept Stripe’s own terms for the payment itself.
Refunds, where due, go back to the card that paid. How long they take is up to your bank, not us.
Packages
Some providers sell a package: a fixed number of visits, on the same weekday and at the same time, bought in one payment up front at a discount the provider sets.
•
You pay once, for the whole bundle, before any of the visits happen. The price is calculated by us from the provider’s own per-visit price and is shown to you in full before you confirm.
•
Each visit is then requested for you automatically and arrives already paid. It is still a request: the provider has to accept it, exactly as with a single booking. If they decline, do not answer within 24 hours, or are unavailable at that time, the visit does not happen and that session goes back into your balance for a later date.
•
Cancelling one visit follows the ordinary cancellation rules, with one difference: a package visit is not divisible, so if a cancellation fee applies at all, that whole session is used up. The app shows you what a cancellation costs before you confirm it.
•
You can cancel the whole package at any time from your profile. Every visit that has not happened yet is cancelled, each priced by the ordinary rules, and everything still unused is refunded to the card that paid.
•
If the provider withdraws the package or stops offering the service, no further visits are created and your unused sessions remain refundable in full.
•
If either of you deletes their HelpU account, the package ends there. Every visit still to come is cancelled at no charge and everything unused is refunded to the card that paid, whether it was you who left or the provider who sold it to you.
Cancelling, rescheduling and no-shows
•
You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the job is due to start.
•
Inside that 24-hour window a cancellation fee may apply. The app shows you the exact amount before you confirm the cancellation — you are never charged a figure you were not shown.
•
If a provider cancels, or does not turn up, you are not charged a cancellation fee and any authorisation is released.
•
A provider may record a no-show if you are not there and cannot be reached at the agreed time. This is only possible once they are on their way or on site.
•
Rescheduling is subject to the provider’s availability and is handled in the app.
What we need from you
•
Give an accurate address, and access notes that actually work — a wrong gate code costs the provider the whole visit.
•
Be reachable around the time of the job.
•
Provide safe access to the property, and say up front if there is anything at the address a person should know about before they arrive.
•
Pay the agreed price for work that was performed.
How results are ordered, and what is an advertisement
When you open a category or run a search, the providers you see are ordered by one thing: their average customer rating, highest first. There is no hidden score, nothing is weighted by how much a provider spends, and nothing is personalised from what you booked before. A provider with no ratings yet sorts to the bottom.
You can change the order yourself, and the app shows you when you have: sorting by price re-orders the list cheapest first and hides nobody, while the top-rated and language filters hide providers who do not match.
•
HelpU sells exactly one form of advertising: Featured placement, a monthly subscription a provider buys. What it buys is a separate block above the ordinary list, never a better position inside it.
•
Every card in that block is labelled Sponsored, the block holds at most two providers, and there is a line under it saying that paying does not change anyone’s position in the results below.
•
When more providers pay than there are slots, the block is reshuffled every hour so it is not the same two every time. It is deliberately not ordered by rating.
•
A sponsored provider also appears in the ordinary list, in the position their rating earned. Paying does not move them up it and not paying does not move them down it.
•
The Top Pros row on the home screen is chosen by HelpU. It is not for sale.
If you list as a provider
•
You are responsible for your own licences, insurance, taxes and legal compliance. HelpU does not obtain them for you and does not verify them on a continuing basis.
•
Describe your services and your pricing honestly, and keep your availability accurate.
•
Do the work you accepted, on time, to a competent standard.
•
Use the customer details you are given only to do the job. They are released to you for the job and for 24 hours afterwards, and using them for anything else — marketing, contacting the customer off-platform, passing them on — is a breach of these terms and of data-protection law.
•
HelpU may suspend or remove a listing that receives serious or repeated complaints, or that we believe is unsafe or fraudulent.
•
You must upload the documents we ask for before your listing can go live, and keep them current. What happens to those files is set out in the privacy policy.
•
Further terms apply to you and not to customers: how your position in the list is decided, what paid placement does and does not buy, and how much notice you get before any of it changes. They are in the provider terms, in the app under Legal, and you should read them before you list.
Reviews and messages
•
Review only jobs you actually booked, and describe your own experience honestly.
•
No abuse, no threats, no discrimination, no personal data about other people, and nothing you were paid to write.
•
Keep conversation about a job in the app. It is where the record lives if something goes wrong.
•
We may remove content that breaks these rules or the law. We do not remove a review for being unflattering.
What you may not do
•
Use the app for anything unlawful, or to arrange anything unlawful.
•
Impersonate anyone, or create accounts to manipulate ratings or promotions.
•
Attempt to break, probe or overload the service, or to reach data that is not yours.
•
Scrape the app, or copy its content for a competing service.
•
Arrange payment off-platform to avoid fees, then claim the protections of a booking that was never made.
When something goes wrong
Tell us. Write to saleemmatar6@gmail.com with the booking and what happened. Because the work is the provider’s, a dispute about the work is between you and them — but HelpU holds the record of what was booked, what was quoted and what was paid, and we will use it to help resolve the matter, including issuing a refund where one is due.
Liability
HelpU provides the platform. We do not accept liability for the acts or omissions of independent providers, for the quality of work performed, or for anything agreed between you and a provider outside the app.
This is early software and it is provided as it is. To the fullest extent Cypriot law permits, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.
If you are a consumer, none of this affects your mandatory rights under EU and Cypriot consumer law. Those rights come first, always.
Consumer rights and withdrawal
As a consumer you generally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. Because a booking is a service performed on a date you choose, that period can end early if you ask for the work to start within it and it is fully performed — you keep your right to cancel under the cancellation rules above either way.
You may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform, at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
Availability and changes to the app
We do not promise the app is available without interruption. Features may change, and some may be withdrawn. If a change materially affects a booking you have already made, we will tell you.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we believe is being used fraudulently, or that puts someone at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. You can close your account yourself at any time; obligations already incurred — a job performed, a fee properly charged — survive it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Cyprus, and the courts of Cyprus have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in another EU country, you keep the protection of your own country’s mandatory rules and may bring proceedings there.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes and the app tells you. Continuing to use HelpU after that means you accept the new version. A booking already made is governed by the terms in force when you made it.
